Adrian Pomilio has been with the CodeBass Core Team since 2010! Fellow geeks will recognize him, as he is a wonderfully prolific speaker at major technical conferences around the United States. He has also represented CBR on-site as a co-host of the Runtime Expectations Podcast. Adrian finally decided to pursue his dream of hosting a live music show, and CodeBass Radio is extremely lucky to remain his home!

The BFG Show is a high energy music show with lots of attitude, and it refuses to be pigeon-holed into any particular genre! Each week, Adrian plans show themes such as “Southern Rock” and “New York State of Mind”. He scatters in regular segments like #RateItOrHateIt, during which he plays two new or rare tunes and asks his Twitter followers to vote. The show is always upbeat and a stellar way to start kicking back on Friday evening!

This show started out on a lark! Jesse Switzer, also known as “Jesse From San Diego”, is a frequent caller to The Jay Thomas Show on Sirius XM Radio’s Howard 101. During one of Jay’s famous rants, he yelled at Jesse to “GO GET A PODCAST!” We decided it would be funny to grab Matt Ryan, another frequent caller to the Howard Stern channels, and go on-air to see what would happen.

MAGIC! What we had were two distinctly different personalities from opposite coastlines with a lot to say and an odd mix of interesting people ready to call in and talk! The rest is history! unsung heroes

As most of you know, CodeBass Radio is 100% volunteer driven. The awesome people who help me keep it running use their own precious time and finances to do so. No one asks for reciprocation, but I do my best to assure the most rewarding experience possible. I do this by sharing the resources and access that I, myself, am afforded via CBR. I also try to promote everyone’s own personal and professional endeavors, and I tend to manage this by tossing it out alongside promotion of their shows. Unfortunately, this leaves me unhappy with the amount of time I wind up giving to those whose contributions are behind-the-scenes. I have plans for balancing that out in 2013, such as revamping the CodeBass Radio website to better highlight our team. In the meantime, this post is for them.

Among what I call CodeBass Radio’s “unsung heroes” is Jason Levine. Jason was someone I found floating around Twitter when CodeBass first launched in June of 2010. There were maybe 3 articles published at that point. I was just starting to look up and over my own technology platforms at that time and wasn’t yet familiar with a large portion of the community. I believe I caught a re-tweet of Jason’s announcement that Audition for Mac had just been released into beta. I thought, “Durrr. Maybe this guy knows about Audition.” I reached out to Jason for an article. When I told him of the CodeBass mission, and asked if he’d like to be involved, he said “..are you KIDDING? That’s like right up my alley..” (He said that, once he got over the initial disappointment that I wasn’t the female Hindi singer he sought. I’m not sure he ever found her!)

I’d done some quick R&D before contacting him, but it wasn’t until I got talking to Jason that I realized he was Adobe’s top Audition guru. His exact title is Principal Worldwide Evangelist. He spends an insane amount of time traveling the globe to showcase Creative Suite, and he does this primarily using awesome content he generates himself both on and off the road. Jason’s enthusiasm for the CodeBass concept was among the first signs that I was truly doing something worthwhile. No idea was dumb. He reacted as though he barely comprehended my concerns. He is the epitome of the fearlessness I have encountered on this amazing journey.

Jason put his voice to the project early and still regularly provides voice-overs and music. With each track he sends, he offers a little bit of education pertaining to the recording and production process. My use of audio terminology must grate at him like fingernails on a chalkboard, at times, but he focuses on the stuff I get right and the things I need to know to get where I’m going. He understands my need to be a “Jack Of All Trades” when it comes to running CodeBass Radio, and occasionally he hears the pain when administrative duties prevent me from deep-diving into the tech as much as I’d like. He re-prioritized the first of his most recent tutorial series to address topic requests from us, and he has promoted CodeBass Radio within these and others.

Over time, Jason’s entrusted a sizable portion of his creative work to the CodeBass library. Jason once wrote about his own mentor, Roger Nichols, entrusting him with “every master recording Roy Orbison had ever made” on his first day of work. It will be a LONG time before I ever come close to knowing everything Jason already knew at that point. Nevertheless, Jason’s prose describes exactly how I feel on this topic. (There have been no irrevocable screw-ups thus far. I have my fingers crossed!)

Then, of course, these small lessons are complemented by the masses of material he puts online regularly for all to see both on and off the Adobe job. I could go on to talk about lessons in love, tolerance, infinite patience, sacrifice and the true meaning behind random acts of kindness.. but why waste time when all that’s inherent in the above.

Jason is currently offering custom video greeting cards with the purchase of a song. He doesn’t refer to them as such, but I do. Once you see what he is doing for as little as .99 cents, you’ll see why. Given what I know about Amazon, he’s going to make a whopping .60-70 cents per purchase, on average. He’ll pocket a cool $65.00 once he completes *100* of these. Get real. I wager Jason wanted to do something special for people this holiday season and needed a way to randomize the process and set a pace. That’s Jason. I think it’s beautiful, and I doubt he will give it the attention it deserves. When doing what you love, the most touching and personal moments are the ones the whole world should see yet are the most awkward to promote. So, this post is my chance at “even just a small” amount of reciprocation for all Jason has done for me and CodeBass Radio. Get on over there and let Jason play the ivories for you.. for your family.. for anyone with whom you want to share some love and good will.
